There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to middle school social studies teacher and athletic coach Ms. Edwards. Did you know she’s left-handed? Or that her favorite color is turquoise? Or how about that she loves greenery and has matching freckles on her arm and face? She can also play the flute and the piano. These are just a few of the things I learned after getting to sit down and speak with Ms. Edwards. She told me that she didn’t personally pick social studies to teach, it picked her. She also enjoys coaching girls’ sports here at Westview including soccer and swimming. She chose to work at Westview because it had the highest rating on her list, and she thought it was the best one she could go to because she was born in Duval.
Ms. Edwards believes that teaching needs a lot of patience and heart. There are days that are challenging and days that are rewarding. She loves the feeling when her students are passing her class and being successful. The relationships that she builds with her students are also amazing to her. Overall, Ms. Edwards wanted to become a teacher because she has been around them for so long and likes to build students up and be the teacher she never had.

Very well written article. It’s disappointing that we had to lose Ms. Edwards as a teacher due to district surplus. We’re glad to hear that she’s still able to serve as a coach here at Westview. I know our students enjoyed her as a teacher.
