Have you ever been scared of a dog? Well, I’m sure many people have or would be especially if the dog weighed 130 pounds. Meet Bear, a friendly Pitbull that came to visit Westview with his handler and Animal Cruelty Investigator Officer Pruitt.
On Wednesday, November 6th the Nassau County Animal Shelter came to Westview to host an assembly on animal safety and all elementary students PK-5 were in attendance. Bear is a well-trained Pitbull dog that showed all the students how great he is. Bear is a very smart dog, but unfortunately he’s allergic to people so he needs a weekly allergy shot to continue doing what he loves which is helping fight the stigma that all Pitbulls are mean and scary. Officer Pruitt allowed students to pet Bear if they wanted too and taught them that not all animals are mean and scary. The students were happy and eager to ask questions about both Bear and animal safety.
Officer Pruitt is an Animal Cruelty Investigator and works as Bear’s handler. Officer Pruitt and Nassau County Animal Shelter Staff Member Madison brought complimentary goodies for our students including a cup, sticker, bracelet, bookmark, and pencil.
Thank you SO MUCH to Madison, Officer Pruitt, and Bear for coming to Westview! We loved learning about animal safety, having a chance to pet Bear, and learning not to judge an animal based on the way they look.
