Teacher of the year is an award that goes to the best, most honored teacher. It is voted on by the teachers and staff in the school. The 2024-2025 award went to a special somebody. Dr. Cordero who teaches self-contained 2nd and 3rd grade, along with social studies and ELA. Dr. Cordero has never won teacher of the year before, but has been awarded something similar in the past when she was awarded self-moderator of the year. Dr. Cordero was also awarded Rookie of the year just in her first year of teaching! For winning teacher of the year Dr. Cordero has very strong feelings, “I feel very honored and very happy” Dr. Cordero said. In general, Dr. Cordero said that winning is a very exciting thing. Dr. Cordero’s next step is applying for district wide teacher of the year. Dr. Cordero wishes people would know that her classroom is very diverse. She also wishes that they would know her classroom is unique, self-contained, and inclusive. Dr. Cordero’s reward for winning this award was balloons and some really pretty flowers. She also feels like she is being valued. Cordero’s favorite part about teaching is seeing her students grow and improve. Cordero chose to work at Westview due to her being a cultural exchange teacher and being assigned to Westview. Dr. Cordero feels very inspired to earn teacher of the year. Especially as a self-contained class. Teacher of the year is a very special award to receive. All teachers deserve teacher of the year. But a special congratulations goes to Dr. Cordero for winning this year.
