Mrs. Smith is the Westview Employee of the Year for 2024-2025 school year. When I asked about when she started when she started working at the school, she said “six years ago, March 18th of 2019.” This tells me that she’s been working here at Westview for a long time and has lots of experience. When asked about where she worked before coming to Westview, she said, “Northshore elementary, I’ve been in various schools in Duval County, but Northshore is where I came from.” From this, I can tell that Mrs. Smith already knew what to expect before coming here.
When asked what she does at the school, she said “I’m in charge of spending money and the activities director.” This job is also known as the Bookkeeper of the school. Mrs. Smith was then asked why she started working here, where she said, “I moved closer to home.” When I asked her how she felt when she won the employee of the year award, she said, “I was very excited!”
I asked Mrs. Smith what she likes about her job and she said, “everything, the people.” I can tell that she seems like someone that people could enjoy being around. When asking what she wants people to know about her, she said “I am a very outspoken, lay it on the line, no nonsense kind of person.”
Then I asked her what her interactions with students are like, where she said, “not a whole lot of interactions, but pleasant when it happens.” So, this means she doesn’t really see a lot of students enter her office, but when she does it’s nice. When asking her what some of the reasons that people come to her (students or adults), she said, “usually a question about payroll, fundraisers, money, and counseling.” I can tell from this that it’s mostly adults that come to her here at Westview.
Finally, when I asked her how many people come to her office in a day, she said, “probably twenty.” Now that sounds like a fully packed day, but it’s a job well done for school staff like Mrs. Smith.
After interviewing Mrs. Smith, I’ve learned from what she told me that she has a very interesting job. I feel that Mrs. Smith is a cool person that works here, so congratulations to her on earning the employee of the year this school year and thank you for all that you do!
